Main Dining – Kansas City Fine Dining

This week’s chef spotlight comes to you from The Gaslight Grill. Executive Chef, Steven Duane Cameron, a native of Lancaster, Kan., began his culinary career as a sous chef at a country club in Manhattan, Kan. After studying in Johnson County Community College’s culinary program, Cameron worked in New York, Barcelona, and New Jersey. His work at Blue in Surf City, New Jersey earned him favorable reviews, national acclaim and semi-finalist rankings in 2008 and 2009 for the James Beard Foundation Awards: Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic. Next, he owned and operated Noble American Cookery in Philadelphia before returning to his Midwestern roots where he worked as Chef de Cuisine at restaurants Michael Smith and Extra Virgin in downtown Kansas City. In early September of this year, Cameron was recruited to take the helm in The Gaslight Grill’s kitchen. He says, “The owner wants the food to equal the hospitality and jazz environment. My goal here is to please the widest demographic at an excellent price point by offering serving sizes with good value. The new menu will focus on American food with an international influence and a Midwest mentality”.
